Description

Before Epic was Epic 40,000, before it was Epic Armageddon, it was Space Marine - and the whole appeal was scale. Not the size of the models, but the size of the battle. Where Warhammer 40,000 gave you a squad, Epic gave you an army: hundreds of infantry stands, whole formations of vehicles, and Titans towering over all of it. Ork Invasion was Games Workshop's answer to the obvious question of what a proper Waaagh! should look like on the table.

The answer was three hundred Orks. Boyz in mobs, Nobz driving them forward, Gretchin underfoot, Madboyz doing whatever the Waaagh! energy tells them to do, Stormboyz coming in on rokkit packs, and Boarboyz thundering in on beasts that are barely more controllable than their riders. Add warbikes, war buggies, and tractor beams, and you have a green tide that behaves on the tabletop exactly the way Ork armies are supposed to behave in the fiction - overwhelming, disorganised, and utterly unconcerned with casualties.

This is the 1990 first-edition box, produced during the period when Games Workshop's Epic range was at its most ambitious. The 6mm plastics were a genuine engineering achievement for their day: recognisable Ork character rendered at a scale where a full model is smaller than a pea. Games Workshop's Epic-scale Ork vehicle work from this exact period was strong enough to win the 1990 Origins Award for Best Vehicular Miniatures Series.

Collectible Value

Epic-scale boxed sets from the early 1990s are among the harder Games Workshop products to find intact, for a simple reason: they were bought to be used.
